THE PROJECT

Partner school's teachers while working in the previous project and during informal discussions were bringing up the problem of decline in readership among young people. The consequence of this problem is that young people are becoming poorer in vocabulary, less and less formulate a longer written expression, doing numerous misspellings. In perspective  the lack of reading skills will entail: problems in further education, reduced opportunities in the labor market, intellectual impoverishment and inability of assimilating foreign languages (if unfamiliar with the native  language).
The development of modern technology, quick access to information, the tendency for transmission of short, laconic information meant that young people read less and less. Literature teachers found that students have a problem with reading required reading, whereby they get lower scores on external examinations. Librarians have noticed a decline of reading in all partner schools, and that students less and less visit reading-rooms and  borrow books.
Therefore it was decided  together to implement  this project, because there is a need to improve the students' competencies: communication in the mother tongue and foreign languages, as well, which is essential in today's world, the development of ICT skills. It was considered  appropriate to combine the need for reading  with interests and habits of young people, which is comprehensive and continual use of modern technology. We hope that through innovation  of the project we could encourage not only students but also adults (eg. parents, teachers and other indirect recipients of the project) to reading.
The main objective of the project is to promote reading and books themselves  as a source of knowledge about the world and interesting ways of spending free time. It is because students realize that the book is not archaic, but still the current form of media. And besides, it is a form that follows modernity, eg. in the form of e-books. Through this project, students will also learn the history of the book and the history of writing, which will allow  them to understand that the book is also a certain continuity and tradition.
The subject  and the scope of the project will directly contribute to broaden their horizons and be creative, and indirectly to increase  lexical efficiency. In addition, students should realize that reading books is really attractive, pleasant, timeless and universal form of leisure, which requires a small effort of forces and means. No age limit, property, place of residence or  worldview.
The project should be implemented within the framework of cooperation between our schools, because:
- we have to solve the same problem,
- implementation of large (and not just local or school) project will enable to publicise the problem
- our students will simultaneously improve both the native language and English,
- we all will  be using our methods and tools, look for solutions, support each other in achieving the goal,

- International character of the project will cause to be more attractive, spectacular, implemented  "with a flourish", publicized, which arouse wider interest, to attract a greater number of participants, and thus increase its effectiveness,
- Students will learn what reading do their peers in other countries have, they will see if some readings are the same in different countries, learn about the most important writings of Literature and authors from other EU countries, the history of Literature in Europe.

- students will compare what young fashion due to the readership prevails in different EU countries: if reading is "cool", what we read and what  media we use.
- teachers will compare Literature curricula and the history of Literature topics, they will learn about other working methods that compare the way of functioning of libraries in different countries,
- thanks to the internationalization of the project it is possible to simultaneously learning among students of many key competences
- participation in international exchanges  is a prestige itself and there is a good chance that the participants  will  become 'infected with reading'.
- International cooperation will make that the students staying  and playing together, not only  acquire typical project provided skills (reading, communication in native and foreign languages, the use of IT), but also gain skills informal and non-formal (cooperation in various groups, increased openness, hospitality, knowledge of other cultures and customs, culture, manners, growth of business life, overcoming the fear of foreigners, appropriate behavior on journey).
