This is a small Public Primary School for 3 to 11 year-old students. There are about 150 pupils ( almost 50 in Pre Primary Levels and
100 in Primary Levels) and 16 teachers. It is located in a rural northwest coast of Galicia, in a village called Galdo, in Viveiro. Most part
of parents work in fishing and agriculture, in spite of Viveiro is a tourist destination during summer.
According to its profile, school efforts are directed to achieve good results, basing the work on key competences, which enables and
empowers the student to learn with better results, for which, the ITC have an important place in school and a different methodology
to use them in daily classes are one of things that make it different to other schools. Nowadays, school is involved in an innovative
ITC governmental project in order to improve educational quality.
It is also very experienced in project work in which all the school participates mostly with support of parents and some other
organizations including the Town Hall.
Fields of specific work:
- Inclusive Education: Trying to integrate all students in formal education respecting their differences. Our school has special
departments, with specialist such as psychologists, pedagogues, experts in therapeutic pedagogy too, who work directed with
students with especial needs in order to integrate them. Diversity enriches us, that’s the school’s motto or saying.
-Physical Education and Sports: Every school year, it participates in different programmes to integrate physical activities and sports
in the educational activity (like “School Sport”, “Move +”,...) Attached to the school there is a Sport Association, “The Santa Rita
Association” that has participated in different types of actions and physical sporting events (races, team sports (handball, football,
athletics, canoeing, ...) in regional and autonomous community competitions.
- Foreign language learning: The school takes part in different programmes and actions in order to improve foreign languages, such
as Languages Portfolio since 2008, CLIL since 2008 too. The school is included in a governmental programme for which it has a
Language Assistant who helps in English lessons. It had a Comenius Assistantship in two opportunities (with Polish and Italian
Assistants in 2008-2009 and 2014-2015)
-Integration of ICT in the teaching-learning process: In its early projects related to its application in the everyday life of school, such
as "A new way to understand the Library"; staff participates in training courses about using IWB (Interactive White Board) in
Education; on the other hand, part of the teachers have experience as teachers trainers in different subjects including this. The
school counts with special classrooms (5th and 6th grades) with ITC equipment, that means a laptop per pupil, wifi and IWB in each,
thanks to Abalar Project. Nowadays school is involved in an innovative and experimental project to develop educational resources
and digital textbooks for pupils.
